Swing & Lindy Hop Classes and Dances
East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop and West Coast Swing East coast swing (aka Jitterbug)
is a subset of Lindy Hop, the grandfather of swing! These fun, playful dances are versatile, popular and danced to classic
and contemporary swing and jazz music. West coast is not the same as east coast! This smooth, contemporary
style of swing can be danced to blues, R&B, funk, soul, contemporary and jazz music. (Still not sure
what you are most interested in? Check out the samples on the video page!) Thursdays, 6:00-7:15 pm January 19, 26: East Coast Basics ($21 at the door for
these 2 weeks)
February 2, 9, 16: West Coast Basics ($32 at the door. $30 if preregistered). No partner or experience needed for either class. We will rotate partners in the class.
Thursdays, 7:15-8:30 pm January 12, 19, 26: West Coast Swing Early Intermediate February 2, 9, 16: West Coast Swing Early Intermediate Cost

Coast Swing/Lindy Hop - Beginners Sept
15, 22, 29: East Coast Swing with basic 6 count patterns. Oct 6, 13, 20: Lindy Hop includes both 6 and 8 count patterns. Learn how to move like a swing dancer,
and how to lead and follow. You can attend
without a partner; we rotate partners in class. No experience needed. Drop
in: Single class - $12. All three classes - $32 Pre-register for all 3 classes: $30
West Coast Swing – Beginners/Early Intermediate Sept 15, 22, 29: Learn basic 6 count patterns, how
to dance with a partner, and the rhythm of the dance. Oct 6, 13, 20: Learn 8 count patterns, styling options
and how to “westify” your movement. Nov 3, 10, 17: Work on lead/follow skills, styling, musicality, and footwork variations. Experience
required for this session.

lot about dancing in one afternoon. Focused learning with lots of practice time built into the day can give you a strong foundation
in these dances.
Put the Groove
in Your Moves Thursdays, March 10, 17, 24. 6:00-7:15pm Have fun dancing and learning authentic
jazz moves of the swing era. While you learn cool moves such as the sailor step, boogie walks, fish tails, and mess-a-round,
you will connect with your own body movement, increase balance and flexibility, feel rhythm in your whole body, practice weight
transfer and turning, breathe, use your arms, and increase your self-expression. This is a non-partnered class: take advantage of this opportunity
to focus on your own movement. You will bring greater
variety, musicality, and authenticity to any dance that you do. Each week has a slightly different focus. Come any time.
January/February 2011 Classes and a Dance! Swing Kids! Session 1: Jan 13, 20, 27. Session 2: Feb 3, 10, 17 An intro to swing and lindy hop designed just for teens
(12 and up). It was the great energy and creativity of young people in the 30’s and
40’s, who loved music and loved to dance, that started it all!

dance experience who want to be more comfortable with the basics, and for those who want to try the opposite role. Swing Kids! November 4, 11, 18. A new program designed just for teens, ages 12 and up. An intro to swing
and lindy hop. It was the great energy and creativity of teenagers in the 30's and 40's who loved music and loved to
dance that started it all! Swing Dance Party!

basic 6 count patterns used in East Coast Swing (aka Jitterbug), how to dance with a partner, and how to move like a
swing dancer.

2: October 7, 14, 21. Review 6 count patterns and learn basic 8 count patterns
used in authentic Lindy Hop. Focus on lead/follow skills. This program is appropriate for beginners, as well as for those with some experience who want to be more comfortable
with the basics, and even for those who want to try the opposite role! This is a great foundation to continue with swing
or to try other dance styles. No partner or experience necessary.
March Swings! at the Belfast
Dance Studio - 2010 Come explore the wide world of swing dance with us, with this “swing sampler” of classes. You’ll
get a solid intro lesson in a different style of swing dance each week: East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Blues,
and Balboa. This is a great opportunity to get a taste of these fabulous dances. Each week is a complete lesson; you can drop
in at any time. You’ll learn the basic moves, styling and music that are appropriate for each dance. Take the series
for the added benefit of learning technique and partnering skills that can be applied to any dance style. After class, there
is a practice session included for free. You’ll learn enough in class to take it right onto the floor! Appropriate for complete beginners as well as for experienced dancers who
